Helpful Ways to Take CBD Oil

How To Best Take CBD Oil

As CBD rises in popularity, more and more forms of administration are becoming available. From tinctures to topicals to edibles, an ever-broadening array of CBD products grows. Each delivery method is metabolized differently, however, so it’s important to understand how they differ to choose the best option for your treatment.

Tincture

If you’re looking to feel the effects of CBD quickly, a tincture is a great option — usually, effects will be felt within 15 to 45 minutes. Directions may vary, but tinctures are most effective when administered sublingually (under the tongue) and left to sit in the mouth for a minute before swallowing.

Tinctures make dosage simple, as they generally contain a dropper and clear instructions to ensure a consistent delivery of CBD.

Carrier Oils for Tinctures

Tinctures subsist of CBD and a carrier oil, which is often MCT, olive, or hemp seed oil. Each kind of carrier oil has its own benefits and drawbacks.
MCT oil offers a high bioavailability (meaning the amount of CBD that absorbed into the bloodstream), anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties, little flavor, and is shelf-stable for as long as a year after opening.

Olive oil is full of antioxidants, but offers unstable bioavailability. For flavored CBD oils, olive oil may also not be the best choice for a carrier, as it has a strong flavor of its own.

Hemp seed oil is often chosen because it comes from the same plant as CBD, but it is not considered an excellent CBD carrier. Its bioavailability is quite low. Also, beware — some companies sell hemp seed oil and market it as if it has the same benefits of CBD oil. Hemp seed and CBD oils are very different, in fact not even derived from the same part of the hemp plant.

When purchasing a CBD tincture, look for those that are packaged in dark bottles. Exposure to light can break down most oils, causing them to go rancid. Dark bottles can keep light exposure to a minimum.

Gummies

Unlike tincture, the effects of gummies won’t be felt until the gummies are digested — usually 45 minutes to two hours. However, the effects can last longer than other methods, and they can also be stronger.

Gummies are even simpler in terms of dosage. They have a specific dosage that is printed on its packaging, and each gummy contains exactly that dosage.

Vaporizers

Generally used for quick relief, vaporizer pens (vapes) offer a small dosage that is the fastest way to feel results. However, the long-term health effects of vaping are unknown, and it may not be the best choice for CBD administration if other methods are available.

Consult Your Doctor

As with any other nutritional supplement, it’s important to consult with your doctor before adding CBD to your daily routine.
